Tepid demand for Samsung Electronics' newest Galaxy smartphones triggered a fifth straight monthly decline in share prices for the electronics maker, wiping out about $44 billion in market value since April -- almost equivalent to the value of General Motors.
Samsung's global smartphone market share fell more than 3% points in the second quarter, and it no longer is the top seller in China, the world's biggest mobile-phone market.
It is being undercut at the high end by Apple's bigger iPhones and at the mid-range and low end of the market by devices from Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei.
IPhone users who don't want the new Apple Watch have a new option: Android devices.
The software that powers the Google-friendly smartwatches will integrate with Apple's iPhones through a new service, according to Jeff Chang, lead product manager for Android Wear.
The new option enables an iPhone to pair with a smartwatch from LG Electronics, along with those planned from Asustek Computer and Huawei Technologies Co.
Apple and Facebook are ready to put a lesser-known location-data firm on the map.
When Apple launched its proprietary map application in 2012 after ditching Google Maps for iOS, it was deemed a failure, so much so that Apple CEO Tim Cook issued an apology. Flash forward to today and Apple -- though still competing for dominance with Google Maps -- has bolstered its map capabilities for iOS in part through acquisitions and in part via a partnership with Factual, a location-data firm Apple has worked with for three and a half years to provide local business data on a worldwide basis.
Factual also recently signed Facebook as a client using its regularly updated Places data for U.S. business information that will show up in Facebook Places Search, Business Pages and Check-ins.
"I guess you saw the attention my last #morningsickness post received," Ms. Kardashian wrote as the VMAs, which she attended, were kicking off in Los Angeles. Her original post included links to websites with disclosures about the risks of the drug, Diclegis, which was approved in 2013 to treat morning sickness for women who don't respond to more conservative measures.
The rest of Ms. Kardashian's post was the kind of boilerplate risk information that voice actors speed through in the final seconds of TV drug ads: "Diclegis has not been studied in women with hyperemesis gravidarum," or extreme, persistent vomiting. She also included warnings about interactions with other medications and alcohol, as well as side effects like drowsiness.
Kardashian first praised the medication in July posts, broadcast to her millions of followers, that started with "OMG. Have you heard about this?" The posts have since been removed.
The rise of ad blocking online has worried marketers and web publishers alike, but even TV networks are having to confront the disruptive technology as it strips commercials from their streaming video players.
Consumers can install AdBlock software on their Chrome web browsers, for example, to eliminate both pre-roll and in-show commercials from full episodes of network shows on NBC.com, ABC.com and Fox.com.
A streaming episode of "Food Fighters" on NBC.com recently began with a 30-second spot for Verizon and threaded in commercials for Bank of America, Fiat, Amazon, Microsoft, "Mad Max: Fury Road," Ford, Pristiq, Subaru, Hotels.com, Old El Paso, Straight Talk Wireless, Bon Appetit Pizza, Total Wireless, Lyrica, Verizon again and other NBC programming. Viewers using AdBlock could watch the hourlong episode without seeing any of the ads.
